Each year there seems to be a new flu name. However, with those random flu names come the serious effects that many are unable to afford an essential flu inoculation. Those affected by the sex offender registry are often uninsured and perhaps the most vulnerable. People that should receive the flu vaccine are those age 65 and older, people with long-term health problems such as heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, kidney disease, blood disorder, conditions of the nervous system, asthma, cancer, HIV/AIDS, and people who are very overweight of a BMI of 40 or greater.
Wake County Human Services is providing flu vaccine (shots and nasal spray) at the Public Health Center, located at 10 Sunnybrook Road in Raleigh, next to WakeMed Hospital from 3:00 – 7:00 pm on the following Thursdays:
October 17
October 24
October 31
November 7
November 14
November 21
The cost for regular flu shots and nasal spray flu vaccine is $30. You do not need to be a county resident to qualify for this low-cost service. There is no charge for the flu vaccine this year for pregnant women without health insurance. Naturally, when n0-cost flu vaccinations are available, we will update with the latest information and whereabouts.
It should be noted that those living in Polk or Henderson Counties are eligible for no-cost flu vaccinations on October 23 from 2 PM to 5 PM at the Free Clinics located in Hendersonville, North Carolina. However, you must be a resident with proof of residency in those two counties. For more information about the Free Clinics, call 828-697-8422.
