I traveled to N. Carolina to visit my sister. While there, I had a heart attack. N. Carolina put me on its registry cause I had been in the state too long. I was unable to travel and had to recover. Spent a year in county jail awaiting trial for not registering. Lost my job, apartment and all my belongings. Talk about unfair. If I’d been in an aircraft crash and in the hospital, N. Carolina would’ve charged me with failure to register. The mindset of law enforcement toward sex offender registration is stupid. Failure to register due to an act of god…heart attack/plane crash/ etc. shouldn’t be prosecuted.
